Sick and Flicks.

If you've been following my tweets or my Facebook status, you know that I've been sick. Stuffy nose, coughing, sneezing, congestion. Yuck.

And through all this yuck, I'm still a mom. I still bundle the kids up, feed them, bring them to school, pick them up again, etc., etc.
Yesterday, I was lucky -- Roomie rushed home in time to pick up the kids from school so I could stay home. He also made dinner, fed the kids, washed dishes, and basically took care of everything. Yes, he's awesome, and he's mine.

Before kids, a sick day for me would be considerably simpler, involving a couch, blankets, hot tea in one hand, remote control in the other, and a movie on tv -- preferably one with Gerard Butler in it, of course.

With movies on the brain -- and because my brain's too mushy for a more insightful post, I've decided to give you a Movie Quote Quiz.

I'll give you 10 movie quotes, and you tell me which movie each quote's from. Just post your responses in the comments, listing the movie title with the number.
For example...
1: Ishtar
3: The Wedding Planner
8: American Beauty

The one who gets the most right just might get a prize. (nb: it won't be a book -- I'm tired of sending books -- it'll be a surprise.)

Easy, eh? Okay. Oh, and NO CHEATING!

Answers will be revealed on Friday, December 12, 8amCDT.

Alright, let's begin:

1: "Follow. But. Follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth."

2: "Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? Do you think that's air you're breathing now?"

3: "Ok, boys, when you meet Jesus, be sure to call Him Mr. Christ."

4: "Look, Your Worshipfulness, let's get one thing straight. I take orders from just one person: me."

5: "I realize that when I met you at the turkey curry buffet, I was unforgivably rude, and wearing a reindeer jumper."

6: "You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone."

7: "Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn't take Lorraine out that he'd melt my brain."

8: "They have taken the bridge and the second hall. We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes, drums... drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A shadow lurks in the dark. We can not get out... they are coming."

9: "The King's stinking son fired me, and thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it? We're closed."

10: "Asps. Very dangerous. You go first."

Okay, go!

  1. Are we supposed to post our responses or what?

    I see a few I recognize...

    - The Holy Grail
    - The Usual Suspects
    - The one with Inigo Montoya and Princess Buttercup, the title of which escapes me...
    - Raiders of the Lost Ark

That's all I've got... I always do poorly when there's no Blues Brothers or Spinal Tap. Or Ishtar lyrics.

"There's a wardrobe of love in my eyes... come in, see if there's something your size."

"How much more black could it be? The answer is none. None more black." :-)

  2. @albert:

okay, I've *spelled out* my expectations ;)
    try again, my friend!

  3. OK, Albert beat me to some, but here's my guesses:

    1. Holy Grail.
    2. Maybe one of the matrix movies?

    5. Bridget Jones
    6. Usual Suspects.
    7. Back to the Future
    8. One of the Lord of the Rings movies.
    9. Princess Bride

    and more Ishtar:
"Hot fudge love - candy coated. Hot fudge love - chocolate ripple"

  4. 1: Holy Grail

    2: Matrix

    3: No earthy idea

    4: Star Wars, baby!

    5: Bridget Jones Diary.

    6: Nope, got nothin.

    7: Zip.

8: Um - Lord of the Rings?

9: Princess Bride! Bye bye, boys. Have fun stormin' de castle!

    10: Snakes on a plane?

All that said, I admire your will to post memes while ill. Very nice.

  5. I feel your pain. I came down with something the past few days and have not been at my best. The worst part is that nothing will rid of the splitting headache accompanying all this. Feel better soon!

  6. I'm one of those people who when you ask 'have you ever seen that movie?' I'll tell you 'no'. Then we sit down to watch it and five minutes in I'm like 'yea, I've seen this before'. I have no memory for movie names, band names, song names, stars names etc. I did recognise the turkey curry buffet though, probably because of the reindeer jumper. I'm good with visual cues, I could picture it right away. Get better soon!!!

  7. pfft... you're all wrong.

They are all from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

With the exception of #3 which is from the Simpsons Movie. Another valuable quotation from which (and same character) would have been:

"...and we thank the Lord for this bountiful P3N15" (to deflect some untoward searchers)

  8. hi Nennette
sorry i haven't visited your blog in the longest time. hope you're feeling better from the cold, which seems to be very recent.
