poll: what are your must-see movies of summer 2009?

On Sunday, I watched a movie. A movie staring these people...

OMG... isn't he hot?! I KNOW!!! The dark. The brooding. The intensity. The pointy ears.
You know I'm talking Spock, right? Oh, don't tell me you're surprised -- you know that I love me my scientist-guys.

Roomie had already seen Star Trek twice -- once with his old buddies and again with Lam -- so I decided to watch the flick by myself. Yep, *alone*. I didn't bother calling anyone to come with me.
Watching a movie alone is a rare treat. Really. I used to do this once in a while when I was single. I'd do it more often if I could, but I often find myself with a tall, cute, scruffy man wanting to tag along. No complaints -- as I said, he's cute.

Now that I've seen Monsters vs. Aliens and Star Trek, my dream of seeing as many of 2009's Summer Blockbusters is well underway. Other movies I'd like to see are:

  • Angels & Demons - I watched its predecessor, The Da Vinci Code, alone. As a non-practicing Catholic daughter of pseudo religious fanatics, I found myself squirming in my seat a lot. Meh, you can never have too much "burning in hell" kinda fun, I say!
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine - With Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, and Liev Schreiber on screen, I'd be happy watching this movie with the sound off. That's what I told Ali, and I've never been more serious in my life.
  • Terminator Salvation - I've seen the other 3. I'd like to see how it ends. I still think they should've gotten Arnie to reprise his role, and have him say something like "See? I told you I'd be back."
  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Despite my deep loathing of Shai LaBeouf, I've loved the Transformers forever. I even watched Beasties, solely for its nerdy computer animation awesomeness, of course.
  • Year One - I saw the preview for this movie when I watched Star Trek. Jack Black makes me laugh out loud. And maybe snort once in a while. I cannot drink a beverage while watching his movies. I will just choke otherwise.
How about you? Which of this summer's offerings will you be watching? Head over to the new poll on the sidebar, and chose all the flicks that will have you lining up at the box office.

  1. I think that going to movies solo is THE BEST THING ever. I love it. My summer flick list:

    My Sister's Keeper
    Julie & Julia
    Taking of Pelham 123
    Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

    ps I don't get Star Trek. Can you please please explain? Everyone says it's the most awesomtastic movie ever. Why? And as a nonn-Trekkie, will I appreciate the awesomosity of it?

  2. @Country Girl -
    Nice list... I'll check some of those out -- gotta love IMDB :)

    As for Star Trek, I've heard many non-Trekkies being blown away by the awesomosity of it. Lots of converts, I believe. As a Trekkie (yes, I'm that much of a nerd), I have difficulty pinpointing the exact reason for said awesomosity -- it's a whole gestalt kinda thing -- and if I did try to explain, you'd have to come up here, stay for a week, and listen to me talk about it during your ENTIRE stay... and I still probably wouldn't be able to say all I had to say about it.

    Mainly because I'm rambly... as evidenced by this comment reply. :)

  4. Star Trek was THE BOMB! :) I was in Jbrams fan-girl heaven. There were 47's everywhere and even a mention of the Slusho drink!! (JJ likes to mention Slusho- it was in Alias, Felicity and Cloverfield. And there was a 47 in every TOS Star Trek ep!)

    Anywho, you know I'll be at opening night for Harry Potter. And dressed up in full costume, of course!

  6. I'm so totally out of the movie loop. I haven't seen any previews in a long time. I'll have to go check out the Empire Theater's site and watch a few

    Considering I just now only watched Twilight, I'm a bit behind on what's in theaters. I have enjoyed the XMen and Terminator flicks so I with fan those. Also I still have a handful of stuff I'm waiting for to hit DVD.

    Also - thank you for the kind words about my new blog! It's a work in progress, but so far so good :-)

  8. Really want to watch Star Trek! Had a couple of opportunities to, but a 7 month old makes it a wee bit hard. I might have to wait for DVD (darn!)

    I did watch Angels and Demons - it was definitely better paced than DaVinci Code (I enjoyed reading DC better). I watched it with my DK and my boy-entourage and being Star Wars freaks hailed Ewan McGregor as he couldn't get away playing "monk" or "priest" roles. Hahah!

    But in any case, getting off the topic... I would like to be able to watch:

    * My Sister's Keeper (tear-jerker!)
    * The Ugly Truth (C'mon - Gerry Butler!) - but this reminds me of Someone Like You w. Hugh Jackman
    * Harry Potter
